Once in awhile, instances around us turn into unbelievable business ideas. But very few people dare to convert an unusual idea into a profitable business. The courage to bear risks and uncertainties of doing business and coining a profitable model out of it makes a person a successful entrepreneur. The ones who make the right choices and believe in themselves ideally attain success.

Meet Pradip Dass and Sukh Chamdal, two Indian-origin cousins, whose egg-free cake company named Eggfree Cake Box (ECB) is blowing up rapidly across Britain. Their franchise of an old product, which is brought to the market with a modern twist, is valued at 66.60 million pounds(Oct 2020), which converts to 630 crore Indian Rupees.

Birth of Eggless Cake Box

Cakes are being sold for generations, but with the rising numbers of vegetarians in London, egg-free cakes are now the ‘literal hotcakes’. The idea was born when Sukh’s daughter asked for an eggless cake. The family, who follows a strict Lacto-vegetarian diet, noticed that London had very few vegetarian food outlets. That’s when the cousins took it as a business idea and turned it into a hugely profitable business.

“We pride ourselves in using the finest quality ingredients and taking the utmost care in the production of our cakes. It is a great honor for us to share our customers’ most important occasions, and we pride ourselves in delivering first-rate customer service as well as delicious and beautiful cakes,” said the duo to a website.

ECB has invented a recipe that helps them make eggless cakes, but with the same taste and sponginess, which is otherwise compromised in other eggless cakes.

The success story

What started as a small shop at Green Street, Upton Park in east London, in the year 2008, now has over 90 branches all over the UK making it the largest Cake Shop Chain in the United Kingdom.

“The rate of the new franchised openings are certainly gathering pace and with the number of potential franchises we have in the pipeline we should easily hit our targets over the next two years.” Pradip  Said In a 2018 Interview.

ECB takes pride in their fast delivery service. According to them, the average waiting time for personalized cakes is as little as 20 minutes and for wedding cakes, they deliver within a day.

Spreading out

In 2017, the company launched a website with a Click and Collect feature. It allowed users to order a cake from a fixed catalog so that they can just enter the store, pick their order up without waiting for it.Moreover, their website offers a varied number of options including a store locator that can show the nearest stores based on your location. It also shows the ingredients for all of their cakes for customer validation and satisfaction. They have started offering muffins, 100 percent pure buffalo milk barfi, and egg-free cheesecake and suggest their regular customers to subscribe to their website to learn of new products that they launch.

“At the ECB, we make individually-crafted, celebration fresh cream cakes, in-store and on-demand for everybody, even individuals on a Lacto vegetarian or egg-free diet, for personal reasons or because of an allergy,” – says 56-year-old Sukh.

Their love for their customers is visible and unparalleled, and they intend to serve products acceptable to everyone, regardless of their specific needs.
